A finished quilt

Today I finished my newest project. The mysteryquilt we made with our local quiltgroup.

It is called "Flutter By" I am very pleased with the finished result. The whole mystery concept was new to me and exciting. And as I promised my self more handpiecing due to the pelvis problems behind the machine, I found I could do a project in monthly chunks without extra pain. This project is machine sewn and machine quilted. And I loved it. So I guess I will balance between machine and handwork.

Mystery top finished

Yesterday I finished the Mystery top. I stitched a bit on it last Friday. So I had the big parts completed to be assembled.

I stiched the big triangles around the center part and the border on to that. I was very pleased with the way the corners of the centerpiece fitted the triangles. I guess I finally found my perfect seam allowance.

Another thing I did this weekend was stitching a small card. As a gift for Justin’s teacher. She came to school with her new born baby.

So many quilty things

The past weeks I did so may things. I can show a lot of pictures.

First some new mystery steps.

These triangles were stitched together.

And last Wednesday I could start with stiching the parts into a quilt top. I did cut some triangles out of the fabric strata’s from step 2 and with a strip around it I think this is a nice center of the quilt.

Apart from this I started a Christmas tabletop.

I used a charmpack I bought back in 2007. End divided the stack in to lights and darks and started sewing. The proces was fairly quick and a lot of fun.

Another fun thing I did was sewing a convergence I saw how to do it on this link . I had some pieces of batic in my stash and I though those piece were fun to use on this experiment.

This is what came out of it. At first I wanted to make two small quilts but now I thing I will combine the two pieces into something larger.

Step 6

This morning I finishes step 6 of my mysteryquilt just in time to take the blocks along to our quiltmeeting this afternoon. I stitched this part in really small bits. So it seemed to take ages to get finished. But every time when I went upstairs to sew, I also wrapped some Sinterklaas gifts. That big gift night is tomorrow the fifth of December. I wanted to be ready early this year but I will be lucky if I finish wrapping everything today. I just found another bag with some small presents. This means more wrapping later this morning.

Here are the blocks I made this month. I think they will turn out to be a border. I still love the fabrics and I get more curious by the month to see how the blocks will go together.

Pink butterfly

Last week I had finished the pink butterfly block for our groups quilt.

003blokjeroze27112008

I need to take it along to our meeting next Thursday.

At first I wasn’t sure if I should start to work at the next mystery step. But I am glad I did start. It is nice not to get behind in this busy time of the year. For this step I had to applique little inch squares on to some bigger pieces. Last week I ironed vlisofix, cut the fabric into small pieces and ironed the pieces in place. During the weekend I had my doubts about how to applique, by hand or machine. This morning I started to machine applique. 8 small blocks are finished now. I need to do 12 more during the next few days. 005stap6bezig01122008

Stitching Snow White

I am back to my BAP stitching. The past weeks I did some smaller projects and had fun with it. The reason I turned my back on Snow White for a while was getting headaches while stiching the fine aida back in September. The lower count projects were no problem in October so now I tried again. And I am so glad I am stitching for several hours a day and no headaches. I guess back in September the problem was getting not enough sleep, because I worried to much about a possible change in housing. Ever since the third week of October we know for sure we are staying here.

Snow White got to a total of 215 hours of stitching last night.

I am working the chimney at the upper right. That will go all the way up to the top of the project. I should stitch fairly quick because there are no details to stitch just many different light browns. But I can stitch quite an amount of stitches in one colour at a time.

Johnny is ready

Last night I finished the second block of the stars. But first I want to show you a picture of the view I have when I am stitching.

020garfielbenen17112008

Garfield is laying on my legs. He would rather be on my lap, but finds the lap table in his way. Quite often Guus is laying there with him. That is getting difficult as Garfield is growing into a big cat.

017johnny12uur17112008

Here is Johnny, or should I say Captain Jack.It was a fun project to stitch. Took a bit more time than the other one because of the backstitching and lots of colourchanges in the hairbeads.

Upstairs I have my sewing machine ready to go. I try to sew a bit every day. Right now I am making the second butterfly block. And there is step 6 of the mystery waiting to be done. But this is a busy time of the year, preparing for the 5th of December, St Nicolaas day.

First butterfly block

Yesterday afternoon I finished my first butterfly block. I like foundation piecing but have some difficulties in cutting the fabric as I mentioned in my earlier blog message. Well all in all this block came out fine. I think I will start the second blok this afternoon.

Butterflyblocks

Hi, I am back with this blog. I did change how to react. Before a comment gets published you have to do a little test. I hope that will take care of the spam.

I will show you what I am doing at the moment. With our quiltgroup we started a mysterie and I finished 5 steps so far. This is the last one.

004stap522102008

And this week I am busy making blocks for our new groupquilt. I have to make two butterfly blocks. This picture shows the start of the first block.

Blog break

Lately I regularly get spam reactions at this blog. I really don’t like that. It makes blogging less fun. I have another blog, at

http://dinmol.web-log.nl/

So I decided for now I will just update that blog. It is mainly in Dutch but I will ad an English translation to it.
